The Optimist club of Manchaca Texas was formed over the summer of 1966 with just over 50 founding members and under the direction of First President John Stevens. The members forged the youth oriented club to help promote opportunities for the children of Manchaca through support of a thriving Baseball and Softball program with an enhanced focus on scholastic achievement through Scholarship programs promoted by Optimist international which is the Sanctioning Entity leveraging added strength for the Club’s initiatives in dedication to youth serving projects.
Today the Manchaca optimist club remains committed to projects supporting area youth, and although the Manchaca Optimist Youth Sports Complex (MOYSC) has now moved west of the community about 3 miles from the original Rex Kitchens fields, the dedication to area youth remains strong and focused upon family values and involvement at every level of Club operations and for MOYSC volunteers and families. Even with the esteemed pride of operating one of the largest Youth Ball programs in our area, the inviting fabric of community spirit and inclusion of all players and families shows that every person has a wholesome role and voice in helping children.
Aside from the opportunity to support the MOYSC operations, Manchaca Optimist club has partnered with area schools and administrators to promote the Scholastic projects established by Optimist International (OI). These include Youth Appreciation Week, OI Oratorical Contest, OI Essay Contest. The club also supports like minded organizations who offer structured opportunities for youth and their families.
Membership of the club remains an open door opportunity for all interested in volunteering or supporting our Club projects and commitments. There are a variety of service levels a person can choose to either support through membership and volunteerism, or simply as a Member who supports financially but is not required to attend meetings or social functions.
